      Virtual Health Coach Interview

      Apr 20, 2020
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Boston, MA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Noom (Boston, MA) in Apr 2020

      Interview

I applied online and received an email link asking me to answer 6 timed questions about client situations and how I would respond, immediately followed by an untimed area to upload a 1-minute video of myself explaining why I would be a good fit as a Noom health coach . A couple of days later, I received an email stating that they currently have no openings, but if I wanted to continue the interview process, I would be put on a waiting list to be contacted for future openings. I decided to pursue the position anyway, so I followed a link that instructed me to schedule a mock coaching session with another Noom coach. A male coach was my interviewer, and he sent me instructions on what they were looking for. He was to play a 45-year old woman who wanted to lose 50lbs in 3 months, and I am to build rapport with her while helping her set her first SMART goal. The session was to last 45-6 minutes and was a live Google document that the two of you use as a chat simulation. I feel my response times were fairly quick (you have to respond in less than 2 minutes to every chat sent by your interviewer). The "client" has a lot of negative self-talk and isn't very receptive to any suggestions you make in order to help her reach her goals. While the instructions state that you are to focus on building rapport, it also states that you are to help her set her first SMART goal. However, when I began gently heading that direction, she stated "The rebel in me doesn't like suggestions because they feel too much like being told what to do." This was in me suggesting ways for her to drink more water after having asked what she thought she could work on to reach her goals and getting "I could drink more water!" as the response. It's also very clear in the instructions that you aren't to "impose your own agenda" and let her choose her journey, yet the goal of the chat is to get your client to set a goal. We ended the chat with her deciding, after much resistance, to exchange her diet pepsi at lunch for a glass of water to increase her water intake from one glass per day to two. The chat ended at exactly 40 minutes. The interview was on Thursday and on Monday morning, I got a no-reply email saying they reviewed my application and qualifications and have decided to pursue other candidates. When I emailed my reviewer thanking him for the interview and asking for constructive feedback, a different coach that I haven't interacted with responded to me and said the company doesn't offer feedback at this time and their policy is to require an applicant to wait 6 months before reapplying "in order to hone in on their coaching skills for the next round." How can an individual hone in on his or her skills for an entry level position if he or she is not even given feedback on how he or she failed the interview? It sounds like this relatively new company is lacking leadership in the application/interview process.
