Interview
I applied to several department based sales positions online. I was contacted by HR via phone a day later. A brief phone screen was conducted and in the phone screen, we set up an onsite interview. I would highly recommend walking the sales floors that you are applying for a day before your interview. I would also recommend knowing a few of the brands that are in the department by browsing the company website. In the interview, I dressed professionally but stylish and brought an extra copy of my resume which came in handy. The questions were fairly expected like "Why Nordstrom?" "Tell me about a time when..." etc. After meeting with the HR interviewer, I met with a department manager. We walked the sales floor and I was asked to pick out three outfits for a woman who works downtown and goes to social events straight from work. Having walked the floor earlier, I felt prepared in pulling these garments rather quickly. We talked about the brands on the floor and who the customer for that department is. I then met with the store manager who asked me about my five year goals, etc. The department manager offered me the job via phone the next day.
A few questions with someone then you’ll meet with a manager in a department they think you would good for. The department manager had me pick out an outfit for a pretend customer and describe why I picked certain items
