I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Nordstrom in Oct 2013
Interview
I applied for a position on their website and after about 2 weeks I received an email informing me that I was selected for a phone screen/interview. I selected a date/time for the phone interview online. On the actual phone interview, I was asked to briefly go over my past experience, an example of a time I provided great customer service and why I wanted to work at Nordstrom Rack. At the end of the interview, the interviewer told me she would like to schedule me for an in-person interview at the store location and I was put on a slight hold. After she got back, she told me that all of the in-person interview slots were unfortunately filled. She apologized and emailed me with her contact information so that if I found any similar future positions I was interested in, I could contact her and she would schedule me directly for an in-person interview. A few weeks later, I actually found a local position I was interested in applying for so I contacted her and surely enough, she was able to schedule me for an interview. The in-person interview had very similar questions but was a bit more detailed and extensive--experience dealing with a difficult customer, best and worst traits, etc. At the end, she gave me a tour around the store and work areas/break room and told me that I should expect to hear from her in about a week.

No unexpected questions--all standard interview questions.
So easy, I went to a job fair and was hired on the spot. They need people in the kids department, that's the easiest section to get into. They just ask about your personality and who you are.
