I applied in-person. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at Nordstrom in Feb 2014
Interview
I heard about this internship through my friend that did it the year prior. Nordstrom was my dream company and learning they had a management internship was everything I wanted and more. I applied online and was emailed that 1 of my 18 preferred locations was a match. It then prompted me to select a date and time I wanted to set up the phone interview. I selected a few days later since I was out of town when I got the initial email. The phone interview went great, lasted about 20 minutes and the girl was very easy to talk to. She worked at corporate as a recruiter and was in charge of the initial phone screenings. She said she wanted me to interview at the San Francisco store in person but couldn't tell me a time or date for that since her computer was down. I said that was fine but after hanging up with her I didn't feel confident about hearing back. I ended up calling corporate 5 days later and getting connected to her direct line and left a voice-mail saying I was still so excited about taking the next steps for the internship. I heard back from her via phone the next day and we were able to set the interview up in SF for 4 weeks later. The anticipation of waiting a month until my next interview was brutal but gave me plenty of time to prepare. I was told it would be a panel interview and after speaking to my friend I knew I would be expected to sell something. The day finally came for my interview and I was interviewed by the Store Manager, HR Manager and a Nordstrom Rack Store Manager. They were all very friendly with behavioral and situation based questions. Nothing I hadn't prepared for. They then told me to pick an item out and sell it to them. (Mind you I had absolutely NO previous sales experience) Luckily for me, I had one of the item options so I told them everything about the handbag that I knew and loved and what really made me want to buy it and I think that's what won them over. I was called 2 weeks later and accepted the position and did the 2 month internship program with them.
Bottom Line: If you don't have any sales experience and AREN'T passionate about fashion or the company I would look elsewhere for an internship. But if you love fashion and have an eye for trends, learning how to sell is easy. Just prepare for the interview, have your own style but dress appropriately for your interview and be confident in your ability to be an asset to the company.
Great!! It wasn’t too difficult at all the interview process was super smooth it was on higher view so it was virtual which I had never done but it definitely was a good change that I needed and it was great experience.

I got an email to come in for the on site interview. The first round, they ask you behavioral questions and few challenging questions. Then I moved to a different room where I had to do on spot sales.
