I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Nordstrom in Jun 2010
Interview
I applied to Nordstrom online, and immediately the next day I was contacted via email to schedule a phone interview with a Human Resources representative. I made my appointment and the HR rep interviewed me by phone. They asked questions such as, "Why do you want to work at Nordstrom?", "Tell me about a time you added value to a sale.", "What do you know about commission?", "Pretend I'm a customer coming on to the sales floor. Reenact how you would approach me." The interviewer seemed to be impressed and asked that we schedule a time to meet in person one on one. When we met, the HR Representative interviewed me asking me similar questions to the ones she asked during the phone interview. She then asked me what department I would like to work in and I was open to pretty much all of them. Then she had me interview with a manager of a random Nordstrom department (different than the one I applied for), and I was offered the open position in the manager's department.
The management at Nordstrom are very helpful and friendly. Once you pass the personality test, they seem to contact you almost immediately. However, don't expect to be hired in the same position that you applied for. It seems to be based on the open positions available at the time sorted by urgency. I accepted the job here and I am fairly happy to be working here.

easy! attended the hiring event. You need to advocate and ask to interview for multiple departments in order to increase your chances of getting the job/dept you're looking for. interview process is repetitive but easy.
So easy, I went to a job fair and was hired on the spot. They need people in the kids department, that's the easiest section to get into. They just ask about your personality and who you are.
Was inside Barton creek mall, hiring manager was prompt and clear with questions ranging from how I would handle difficult customers, to my personal experiences that could apply to the job.
