I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Nordstrom (Minneapolis, MN) in Oct 2015
Interview
I submitted my application online with two current Nordstrom's employee referrals. I was called within 24 hours for a phone interview which really only consisted of availability questions and what kind of work I was looking for. The woman then set up an in person interview for about a week later (there was an earlier date offered but I already had obligations). The day of the interview I received an email saying where to meet and how to dress. The email said it would be a group interview, but it wasn't. I showed up 15 minutes early like the email said and was very briefly greeted by the HR manager. She then handed me over to the Assistant Department manager for the department I was interviewing in. She asked very basic retail questions, including availability, how long I anticipated working there if hired, and why specifically that department and specifically Nordstrom. We then went through a selling exercise where I could sell her anything I wanted. After the exercise she showed me the stockroom and selling floor. Once that was over she said they would get back to me within 72 hours. When the 72 hours was up I was called and told they went with another candidate in the department, but another manager from a different department wanted me. I declined the offer.
A few questions with someone then you’ll meet with a manager in a department they think you would good for. The department manager had me pick out an outfit for a pretend customer and describe why I picked certain items
