I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Norfolk Southern in Nov 2011
Interview
Receive Company overview/interview offer via email. Coordinated with HR representative to schedule flight and hotel arrangements which were paid for by company. Flew in the night before interview and stayed in hotel within walking range of HQ in Atlanta, GA in midtown. Arrived at Norfolk Southern HQ for Company overview approximately 745 am to begin at 8 am. The interviewees were greeted by company rep and were taken upstairs to immediately take personality/skills test to confirm that the test that was taken online was based upon the selected interviewees aptitude alone. We were then lead to conference room of which approximately 50 other interviewees were there for overview of the various Management Trainee opportunities. The overview began with giving company history and standings/rankings in industry. They provided an overview of each Management Trainee program, the benefits, and retirement structure that came along with railroad industry. Once this was complete were given prepaid card for incidentals and then lead over individual to participate in one on one interviews. Caught scheduled flight shortly thereafter.
Advice to candidates is to be prepared to take additional test once you arrive for interview. Also be prepared to wait for turn to have one-on-one interview. BE prepared to locate if offered opportunity.
I applied, got flown out to Atlanta for an interview with a panel. I got an offer 2 days later to start within the next month after completing my degree.

Interview
Interview process was excellent. Three rounds with different groups from the company, very relaxed environment. People were great, questions were standard. They also brought a person from the field who was in the position they were interviewing us for, and we were able to talk to him and ask questions
