I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Norfolk Southern (Atlanta, GA) in Nov 2011
Interview
I applied online, took an online aptitude test, then was invited via email to a 1st round interview in Norfolk, VA. The interview consisted of an afternoon presentation followed by a short skills test and then a 1:1 interview. I flew in the day before and out that night. About a week later, I received another email inviting me to a final round interview in Atlanta. The night before, there was a presentation and dinner, followed by two interviews the following day. Each interview was with two current employees, some of which had been at the dinner the night before, and lasted about 20 minutes each. Questions were mostly generic, "How important is safety to you?", "Describe a time when... ". Overall I thought it went really well. I received an email a week later though saying they had decided against offering me a position. So it goes.
I applied, got flown out to Atlanta for an interview with a panel. I got an offer 2 days later to start within the next month after completing my degree.

Interview
Interview process was excellent. Three rounds with different groups from the company, very relaxed environment. People were great, questions were standard. They also brought a person from the field who was in the position they were interviewing us for, and we were able to talk to him and ask questions
