I applied through college or university. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Northwestern Mutual (Paramus, NJ) in Mar 2012
Interview
Met with the company at a career fair and appeared to be a legitimate finance position. I scheduled an interview in my area and went there only to find out that it was basically a sales position. If sales is what you are looking for it would be a resume builder, but thats about it. They asked a few behavioral questions (biggest strength and weakness) and then they wanted me to come back with a list of 100 names of friends and family to begin calling them and asking about their life insurance policies.

Question 1
There really wasn't anything surprising, but if I had to pick a hardest question it would be "how would you respond if a customer says they don't want to change their policy?"
There were four or five interviews, if you count the meeting with my future mentor. There were also a few personality assessments. Lots of paperwork. The finance industry is tightly regulated.
The first interview was easygoing and went fairly well. We talked a little on myself and what northwestern was all about. Because they wanted to see how I could fit in to their team and what I would bring.
I interviewed at Northwestern Mutual (Greenville, SC)
Interview
The process was smooth and straight forward. A lot of behavioral based questions, but relaxed and low stress. First phase is a phone screening followed by a teams or in person meeting.
