The first step in the process is to be assigned to talent partner from Instant Impact (in my case it was Mollie).
Once assigned your first step is to have a one to one phone call, followed up by a one to one video interview with the same person.
You are then given the task of completing a series of test to assess your math and literacy ability.
If successful you are put through to a “Discovery Day” with multiple applicants from other offices. The day consists of a video call with said other applicants as well as multiple current Octopus employees, where you are given an ice breaker (such as does Pineapple belong on pizza” - the answer is no it does not). You are then split into much smaller groups (including at least one Octopus employee) where you are given a series of scenarios that may arise during a typical work day to see how you would handle said scenario. You are then split into a different group (again with an Octopus employee) and given the chance to show off the research you have done and to show off your creativity and ability to work in a team (suggesting a new partnership or product the company does not already have). Next is a Q and A panel with the opportunity for the group to ask questions to the current Octopus employees, to have a better insight into the role and the company in general, and to ask any advice for someone new to the the role. The final part of the day is a one to one interview with somebody from Octopus for them to get a better understanding of you as a person, what makes you tick, how you think, and what your motivations are for joining the company.
Should you be successful after the Discovery Day, you’ll be invited to one final call with a further 2 employees from Octopus, it gives them the opportunity to explain the role further, the positives of working in the role and the challenges that come with it, as well as explaining the potential progression. It also gives them another opportunity to get a feel for you as a person.
I would like to end by saying that Mollie from Instant Impact is one of the friendliest and most helpful people that I have had the pleasure of interacting with, and made this process incredibly easy for me. She was extremely approachable, gave amazing advice (as well as excellent constructive criticism), and helped me to really show off my strengths, which in turn led to a successful application on my part. She wished me luck at every turn and seemed genuinely happy that I was successful, which was really nice, and any future applicants that gets Mollie as their Talent Partner is extremely lucky!
