The interview process started with a recruiter call. Immediately scheduled an interview with the hiring manager the next business day. I was told by the recruiter to prepare my responses in Situation, Action, Result format with relevant examples to show case my strength and achievements. In addition to that I was told to prepare a 30 sec value statement and research the company.
I prepared for the interview based on the format but to my surprise the hiring manager wanted free consulting. The hiring manager had one question which was directly related to job description. For the same question, the hiring manager would ask multiple follow up questions and documented every thing. This entire consulting process went on for 35 minutes for just one question in a 45 minute interview (the rest 5 minutes was the hiring manager introduction and role details and last 5 minutes for me to ask any questions). Given that I had done the same work in my current company, I genuinely thought that I will be a great fit for the job.
Next day, to my surprise, the recruiter sent the standard rejection email - "we have decided to progress with other individuals for our current needs."
I just felt cheated and scammed by the company. I further looked into the job details and found that the job has been opened for almost 2 months. For 2 months they could find a candidate is very hard to believe. Looks like OneMain Financial is scamming candidates to get free consulting for the job. This way they don't need to hire you and build new features with their own "talent".
Terrible experience won't interview again for free consulting
