The recruiter apologized for being later, they were only a couple minutes late which is okay. We hit it off fine.
The hiring manager is a whole other story so strap in. They showed up 6 minutes late to the interview where as I had shown up 10 minutes early. They were wearing what I could only describe as a white tank top with their hair tied up as if they had just finished a workout or yoga. In my opinion it was not appropriate attire for an interview in a professional setting. The interview started off okay as we went through my background but that’s where it soured. In a move that almost seemed like intimidation the interviewer asked me “what can of person they were just from a gut feel”. I was baffled. We had been speaking for only 25 minutes at this point and each question they had asked they repeated. I answered each question as I would answer them, not as I’m assuming they were expecting.
I answered the personality question to my best ability but made it tongue in cheek and said they were a person who enjoys having respect and being in control and I tied it back to personal references they had made. Throughout the interview they did not smile or ask me if I had questions. At the end I asked how they felt the interview went. This is where it gets ridiculous, they said and I quote “not great”. And the feedback relating to the “not great” score: having to repeat questions back to me multiple times trying to fish a different answer. Apparently, answering as myself and honestly means I’m bad at interviews???
