I have actually applied to Opower twice and each time they have bungled the process. I interviewed with an HR person who then passed me off to an executive. On both occasions they were late for the call, asked amateurish questions then cut me off early to move on to the next caller. In both cases the interviewer told me I was a good candidate and would hear from them on next steps to interview with others. I then heard nothing for quite sometime before getting a form letter. If one is not qualified they should just be honest and give the candidate feedback. If the candidate is qualified and they just cannot seem to follow up then they really do have an incompetent HR process. I wasn't impressed and wouldn't have taken the job if they had actually gotten their act together to move it forward. For the life of me I cannot understand why they have top level executives involved in the interview process so early on particularly since they are so bad at it. Opower strikes me as one of those companies that is quite proud of themselves and hires young, smart talent from pedigreed universities. As someone with a Master's degree and 18 years of energy experience I can honestly say that this is not a company for a seasoned professional.
