Interview
You fill out a basic application and then you are invited to participate in a class Spring term. During this time you are interviewed by current RAs and RDs. Most of those who make it thru the class become RAs. This whole process was long... taking at least 90 days. If you know you want to be an RA, I suggest preparing the year before by making connections with current "good" RAs, RDs, and joining student council. This will fast track your way in because people already know you and what you're like. You don't have to be a "ra ra, I LOVE OSU" type person but you also cannot be someone who never shows up or has a lot of conduct issues. They are basically looking for responsible people who will help guide new students and be an active part of the community.

Behavioral interview. You are presented with potential scenarios you may face as an RA and asked how you would address them. You are asked how you feel about activities that aren't allowed in the Residence Halls. They want to make sure you are tactful, socially sensitive, and naturally not so far off from "politically correct" that the strain from having to be so nearly at all times will cause you to burn out.
