Saw the req post publicly on LinkedIn. Requisition looked like it had been written from my resume. Applied on PG&E website. Submitted enough data and attachments to make any hiring manager cry. Contacted by recruiter. Sent me a few dates and times and asked that I pick 4 in the priority of my choosing. Also sent a new job req that was significantly dumbed down and written in Word by someone who obviously didn’t care - red flag. Day of, I had a meeting my current executive team drop in during the interview. PG&E gladly rescheduled (they could have stopped here), and I took the interview the next day. I’ve never felt body language ooze through a webcon so much before in my life. The level of, “this is purely a formality because we already have our candidate chosen” was insane. Upon convulsion, I asked if the hiring team had any reservations about my qualifications for the position. They answered, “no.” Thanked them, wrote a complete SWOT analysis of my candidacy for the position and sent it to the whole team and HR the next morning. I specifically put, “internal hiring by PG&E” as one of the threats. Two weeks later, HR contacts me to say it was really close but they had chosen to go with another candidate. I said “That’s cool, what did the other guy have that I didn’t?” HR said they would ask the hiring team for any feedback. Never heard from them again. Friend in the same industry screenshots and sends me the LinkedIn of a dude celebrating getting the position. Said he was a good dude but was not nearly close to what the req posted listed as requirements. Nepotism in the sUAS industry strikes again. These people get on private Facebook chats and slander each other to the point of no end. Then they all share the screenshots. PG&E, you had your chance to have someone come in and revamp the industry into honorable men and women, not keyboard warriors. As a representative of the FAA, I hope you squash the back-channel pettiness and start holding your people accountable like they might actually have the possibility of injuring someone.
