Granted, the team that I spoke with was in emergency mode due to the wildfires, my interview was less of an interview than it was a conversation. I was very much led to believe that I was the fit they were seeking and the interviewers spent most if not all the time describing to me their work, the makeup of the department, and a little of what they were looking for in the role. While I did not feel comfortable with my work on the writing exercise I was given (a software update kept popping up on the computer they gave me, causing me to lose time and concentration), my performance on that is the only reason I can rationalize in my mind that I did not move forward. My last interviewer even told me that he wanted to see me move onto the next round and described in detail what would happen next! Something that was not articulated properly went seriously awry. No sour grapes here; I only wish that given the outcome I was able to answer and address real interview questions about my experience and capabilities, not be led to believe they were selling me on the merits of joining their team and the position was mine to lose. Another note about logistics: the recruiter was fairly late to collect me in the lobby, and instead of being led to an interview room, I went to the interviewers' respective offices. Understandable given the tenor of operations that day, but nevertheless adds insult to injury in not giving me opportunity to address any concerns via a formal setting.
