A recruiter suggested that I try out for Palantir Tech. ... hadn't heard of them at all ... then he started describing them and I quickly realised that he was talking about a nouveaux company structure which reminded me of a Google, Facebook, Apple or something similar ... a place with a new school outlook and possibly a great place to work. The recruiter lined up my first phone interview and it was with a down to earth person on the other end of the phone ... he wanted to know why Palantir and various points about my interests outside of work. Luckily I had done my homework and I had a good idea what P.T. were on about and why I thought I would like to work for them. I asked plenty of question to try to fill in my knowledge gaps about Palantir ... it was great. I then heard back from the recruiter a few days later that they wanted to give me a second phone interview... I did plenty of study, felt ill prepared. Again the phone interview was with a down to earth character ... he asked me a generic algorithm question on the bit level (sub byte) ... it went well. I asked plenty of questions again. Hear back again a few days later ... this time I am invited onsite for the full day interview process. Was put up in a ritzy hotel in Palo Alto, I was really sick, but enjoyed my stay - ate good food, drank fruit juices, etc. all on Palantir's tab. Took the time to visit a family friend in Sunnyvale for dinner and so on ... The onsite interviews were challenging. Algorithms, systems design and behavioral ... again, you can study all the questions you want, they will know if you have learnt the answers OR if you are working it out on the spot ... they seem to really want to see you operate, rather then write answers from memory, so it is a good idea to study and practice programming on paper describing your steps, rather then coding on your computer. 3 interviews in the morning, then taken to lunch by a different employee, she could tell I was sick and looked after me, made me tea, etc.... met another staff at lunch ... talking with them over lunch let me understand more about how the company operates and also we discussed some of the company reviews on glassdoor and how disgruntled interns/employees most likely wrote the bad reviews. Saw a great demonstration after lunch and after this was taken to meet a founder. Before meeting with the founder, the facilitator and I sat down she wanted to check that there were no problems with me taking the job and that I should be aware that I would have to meet with the Australian group prior to getting an offer. She also said that I would have to do 6 weeks training in the USA. I met the founder who was concerned that I didn't have enough CS chops and challenged my knowledge on data structures. I think he felt comfortable with my abilities after our interview. Finally heard back 2 weeks later, for some reason they say that I have failed the system design interview. This is really odd ... I have the feeling that this wasn't the problem ... I have the feeling that something else was the problem ...
