Initial phone interview with the recruiter was painful. Breakdown of the 10-minute interview:
- Recruiter starts by asking "the HR questions" while painfully reading some sort of form/script. Asked questions like if I needed sponsorship to work in the US, even though they were already answered when I applied.
- Kept asking basic questions like compensation expectations and describe a "recent win at work". Thoughtful answers were clearly not appreciated, since the recruiter was in a rush.
- When it's my turn to ask questions, I ask about the team structure. He says "security manager --> director of security --> ceo" which from looking at Linkedin is clearly wrong. Then says only one other member on the team who is a "junior engineer" but also that employee on Linkedin was promoted 6 months ago. For a team of 2 to 3 people, the recruiter didn't even get one of the roles correct.
- He said that the role exited previously but then was empty for the past year. I asked a clarifying question of "So someone once filled this position, then you left it open when they left?" and the recruiter replied "yes that's what I said". Completely rude and at this point I wasn't going to ask "why did they leave?".
The entire interview was painful. The recruiter clearly didn't enjoy his job and kept asking "is there anything else" to get me off the phone as soon as possible.
