      Director Sales Development Interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Particle (CA) (San Francisco, CA) in May 2018

      Interview

The interview process was great. Very engaging conversations with very intelligent people. It started with a phone screen with one of the members of the team the role I was interviewing for led; I thought this was a great sign that the company trusts even their entry level employees. Following the screen I came in for another 3 face to face interviews over the course of a month. The first red flag should have been the utter lack of response to any of my "thanks for considering me, it was great meeting you" post-interview emails. But, people are busy at work, and the post-interview thank you email has become so rote that I didn't worry about the radio silence. Every interview was better than the last, and each person I met increased my excitement for the opportunity. After what was positioned as the final interview in the process I was told to expect to hear from them in a couple of days. After more than a couple of days of nothing I reached out directly to the hiring manager with whom I had shared such great rapport, gently reminding him that the the time he indicated I should expect to hear from had long since passed... Crickets. For days. Finally he responded, assuring me that the lack of responsiveness should be considered atypical. Foolishly, despite the evidence I had already seen to the contrary, I took him at his word. I was told in no uncertain terms on July 25 that he would follow up with me the next day. Here it is the 9th of August and nothing. I've been ghosted... Fortunately the third-party recruiter that initially contacted me was more responsive. She informed me that they had already made an offer, which was accepted, to an internally referred candidate. I get it; I don't mind losing out to another candidate. What I do mind is the complete lack of respect for my time and being strung along. Your mileage may vary, but that's how it went for me. Edit: Other red flags: for the phone screen, the person I was scheduled to speak with was not the person I ended up speaking with.
