I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at PayPal (Bengaluru) in Sep 2020
Interview
I was reached out by a recruiter in the month of September 2020 for the Cloud. When I went through the JD I found that my experience is matching 80-90% of what's mentioned in the JD. The first round of interview was scheduled and the interviewer was an Indian in the US. In the first round, he asked few questions on direct connect, BGP traceroute and discussed my experience in cloud networking. I felt positive about the first round, later I was moved to the second round of interview. The interview was also a 1:1 video conference interview. The interviewer seems to me to be from the PayPal Chennai location. He started with basic networking questions such as how traceroute works, then he asked few questions about DirectConnect, VPN, design questions. I was able to answer most of it but he went into some scenarios related to DirectConnect(encryption in DirectConnect) and BringYourOwn-IP(AWS feature), I explained those cases but it seemed to me that he was looking at some specific answer which we had in his mind, and he was not looking at one's approach to the problem. On all my answers he would say with a giggle "Are you sure?"He was sarcastic in the whole process of the interview, he sounded very arrogant and egoistic as well. Prior to or after this interview, I was interviewed at Google(rejected at coding round), Amazon(received the offer), Pegasystems(received the offer), and later Honeywell(currently working got a better offer than Amazon and Pega). In all these organizations I had a very good experience with the whole interview process. In my last 12 years of experience, the worst interviewer I came across till now is from PayPal who took my second round. I am refraining from mentioning any names here. I hope PayPal corrects this soon and gets a good candidate.
Thank you for your feedback, we're sorry to hear about your experience. We constantly aim to create the best possible candidate experience, but admittedly things can always be improved. Your feedback is valuable and will help us understand how we can evolve our interview process.
