Paylocity QA Engineer interview questions

Perplexing. Interviewed with paylocity after having completed an automation framework from scratch, documenting issues found during manual testing and writing test cases. All this needed to be done within 20 hours which no one would need to do in such a short amount of time in the real world and I was not paid to do this project. During the hour and a half interview, it seemed as if the interviewers did not actually read the instructions that were given to me. They asked me why I wrote the gherkin the way I did even though THEY wrote the gherkin. I was merely following directions. Also I was asked how the data table in gherkin worked, how is information passed from gherkin to the methods? To me this meant they did not understand gherkin or cucumber although I was asked to automate using BDD in cucumber. The following week I was told that I did not get the job and that I should look into the James Bach certification. I've read his books. He is someone that is currently profiting from bashing internationally recognized certifications, one of which I have. All in all, I'm glad the process was quick but it was painful and strange. Don't waste your precious time on their interview project, there are other companies.
