      Manager Interview

      Jan 28, 2017
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Pearson

      Interview

I applied directly through the Pearson website. The recruiter contacted me and set up a screening interview, which went well. I had a face to face interview with the hiring manager and the main stakeholder the role would be working with. All seemed to go well and they invited me back for another face to face interview with the hiring manager again and another colleague. The second face to face interview seemed to go well and was not particularly challenging. I did get asked a couple of questions which made me wonder if they thought I was a bit senior for the role, but being a new role it seemed it was one I could make my own. I also had to do a case study as part of the interview. All the signs were positive and as it was on a Friday I was told at the end that they were hoping to make a decision later that day or Monday so the latest I would hear would be Monday. A week went past and still nothing...I guessed I hadn't been successful, which is fine, but Pearson's communication was woeful. I ended up emailing the recruiter to chase and their response was 'oh we've just offered to someone else, I was going to email you but you beat me to it'. Not the most professional of responses! I asked for feedback and was told the interviewers really enjoyed meeting me and I was a great candidate. Not very helpful! I chased for more specific feedback, otherwise how I am I supposed to improve my interview technique or know why I wasn't suitable for the role. The recruiter seemed surprised I was asking and said she would chase the hiring manager. I chased a couple more times when I didn't hear anything, and nothing. The interviews themselves were fine but the follow up was non existant. There were not many people interviewing face to face for the role so it was a bit unprofessional of Pearson to not bother following up. I know everyone is busy but their approach needs to be improved to make candidates feel valued.

      Interview

Very poor interaction. It was supposed to be a panel interview, and only one interviewer attended. Even more surprising was the interviewer's lack of interest from the get-go, no attempt at building a genuine conversation. I felt that they had already made their pick, and were not interested in interviewing another candidate. Waste of time!
