The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at PlayStation
Interview
My experience with the hiring process was unfortunately quite disappointing, especially considering company’s reputation as a well-known brand. No surprise that there is a lot of negative feedback regarding candidates’ hiring experience, casting a negative light on the brand itself. The process was very one-sided, favouring the company’s interests, with limited engagement with the candidate. It consisted of 2 stages: stage one was 1 hour interview with the hiring manager, and stage two consisted of two presentations and a subsequent interview lasting 90 minutes. Regrettably, the first stage interview lacked structure with random questions asked and framed in a manner like: How do you feel about working on this and that. I noticed no notes were taken by the hiring manager, leaving me uncertain about the objectivity of the process. The absence of standardised questions added to the ambiguity, leaving me unsure of what exactly they were seeking in a candidate. As another review mentioned, it did feel like a fishing expedition.
The second stage involved 2 presentations and an interview and facing panel of 10 people. The topics provided for the presentation were very broad and when attempted to seek clarity to ensure I align the chosen topic to the brand as much as possible, I was told just to choose something generic as they are not interested in how I come up with the topic. Ironically, during the interview I was asked for my rationale behind my decision to select that particular topic. While the interviewers were friendly and made me feel comfortable, the interview questions seemed random. A week later I received an email notifying me that panel chose another candidate for the role. Hoping for constructive feedback, I asked for a quick call to gain insights into my areas of improvement. 4 weeks later and I still haven’t heard back. Considering the extensive and one sided nature of the hiring process, it should be standard practice to provide feedback to unsuccessful candidates who reached the final stages. Candidates invest significant time and effort into the process and the whole experience with no feedback given raises questions regarding the company’s culture.
I hope that Playstation reevaluates its approach, ensuring more transparent, respectful and inclusive process that is aligned with its esteemed brand reputation.
Thank you for taking the time to provide such a detailed review. We are extremely sorry you were not provided feedback, and that you had such a long and painful experience. There is no excuse for this type of candidate experience, and we feel terrible this happened. We are working on many aspects of our recruiting process, and this review illuminates how important it is to treat candidates like honored guests in your home. We will make sure that our talent acquisition leaders are made aware of this situation so we can prevent it from happening in the future. All the best to you!
