      Node Js Engineer Interview

      Oct 1, 2020
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Povio in Aug 2020

      Interview

The entire process consists of: - introductory interview - short conversation about candidate's experience, preferences etc. Very relaxed and straightforward. - coding task - take-home assignment which can be completed in about 8 hours (or less). Simple and reasonable. - technical interview - the meeting was related to the assignment itself so we walked through it and discussed implementation details etc. The interviewer also asked some unrelated questions about system design and my past experience. Everything was super pleasant and informal. Overall, I'm very satisfied with the communication and experience.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Most of the questions were related to the assignment with some extra ones about system design and JS experience (no algorithms or JS brain teasers).

      Application

I applied through other source. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Povio in Jul 2021

      Interview

      1. I was contacted by one of the company's HR people via LinkedIn / email. We had an initial interview on the phone, which was actually a very relaxed conversation about the company and about myself. 2. I received a programming assignment and was asked to estimate the time to completion. The assignment is intended to take a little less than one workday, but I needed around 12 hours because I am not quite as experienced as the people they seem to be looking for. After delivering the assignment, it was very promptly reviewed by the Povio team and I got invited to a technical interview within a couple of days. 3. The technical interview was with one of their senior developers. We discussed the assignment, then moved on to talking about some real life work situations and an example of how I would approach designing a new feature for a client. I was not familiar with many of the things we discussed, but the interviewer was kind, took it in stride, and explained some ideas to me so that I can look them up later. It was after this step that I received a rejection due to still being a fairly inexperienced developer. I was pleased with the process nonetheless; it was very professional and human. I received very prompt and considerate communication at all stages and I was given feedback on what I did well and where I can improve.

      Question 1

Say you were given a small team of junior developers to lead. Which measures would you take to prevent code commits that would break the solution?

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Povio in Jun 2020

      Interview

The interview process is consists of three steps. The first step is an introductory call where a recruiter presents you Povio labs and you tell more about yourself to the recruiter. If you move forward, you get a project assignment. Project assignment only outlines the most important aspects of it on the high level. After you submit the assignment, it gets reviewed by one of their engineers who decide if you move forward to the third step. If you get to the third step, you get to talk to the same engineer about your implementation - why did you apply a particular approach etc. There is also small live coding session where you don't actually code, but are meant to explain the code.
