The first interview was a group interview with four other candidates and two HR representatives. They asked five questions and we each answered in turn and in revolving order so each candidate answered one question first and one last. Group interviews are unavoidably awkward, but the interviewers were friendly, treated each candidate with equal attention, and tried to make it as painless as possible. The hardest part of any group interview is that you don't have an opportunity to create a rapport with the interviewer, and the process feels more like an oral exam and less like a conversation, but that has less to do with Powell's and more to do with the group format. The process took about an hour, and we were told that if we were selected to move forward, the next interview would be one-on-one with a manager. The interview was about one week after I applied online, and I was informed of the results by email five days after the interview.
