They won't even talk to a qualified candidate before a timed aptitude test is passed. Not only is this a big red flag that indicates mistrust for the applicants, but it's far from inclusive, which is what public education (their industry) is all about.
I have had a very successful career in UX and didn't pass the test the first round because I didn't complete enough questions in the allotted time. I was a valedictorian of my high school and graduated summa cum laude from a large state university. But maybe I had an off-day and was slower to think...we're in a pandemic after all. I was immediately ruled out of the hiring process, which was frustrating and insulting. Then they ghosted me after encouraging I apply again. I even had an internal referral and was connected with the recruiter, so it wasn't like they accidentally missed my application.
UX is a specialized role, which uses unique, creative skills and diverse ways of thinking. I wasn't applying to be a calculus instructor! Their process of weeding out signals to me an overly data-driven culture that has antiquated leadership and doesn't value diversity, equity, and inclusion even if they claim to.
Don't waste your time applying for a company that values and evaluates humans via numbers only. I hope this philosophy doesn't come across in their software, or I fear for our childrens' futures.
