      Software Engineer Interview

      Nov 28, 2017
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Shelton, CT
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Priceline.com (Shelton, CT)

      Interview

Recruiter, 1hr video call, 3 rounds during on-site with pairs of different people, CTO interview. Video call with hiring manager made perfect sense- technical questions discussing current project, with follow ups on how the system would be expanded, some technical questions on big O, data structures etc. On-site was “interesting”... no problem solving/algorithm/architecture questions. First 1.5 hours was a drill of what you’d study for Java programmer certification. It’s not a conversation- it’s non stop questions thrown at you, all that’s missing is a light in your face and it would be a complete interrogation. So prepare your Java basics if you are going there, Java cert book would be perfect. Next round was supposed to be tech know how/ architecture. Interviewer was interested in “what are you good at”, being good at what you do is not what they are looking for. No architecture or problem solving questions again - just some basic stuff that came to interviewers mind at random. Things like comparable vs comparator, why override both equals and hashcode, etc, etc. Last pair of interviewers were again interested in one thing I was good at! They also oohed and aaahed at the fact I work with new technology all the time which was alarming. It almost sounded as if they have old monolith applications. Last round was a CTO who is a bully - very rough, abrupt and rude.
