The first two interviews were good, I felt like they truly wanted to understand who I am as a candidate. The next two interviews were pretty poor and left a sour taste in my mouth. During both interviews when it was my turn to ask questions, they were both quite annoyed with answering them. During one interview I asked how what opportunities for growth were available. They said they really just wanted me to focus on this position and how essential it would be for the year. I’ve never experienced a company that had no interest in at least explaining any horizontal or vertical movement in a company. During the other interview the interviewer showed up late and began the call asking if I had any questions about the position. Because I knew that they had no direct influence on the day-to-day tasks regarding the position, I asked questions regarding the culture. They answered but followed up with asking if I had any questions about the role specifically. So I asked about the day-to-day and they answered the best that they could, but told me I should have understood what the day-to-day would look like by this point. We moved onto the portion of the interview where they interviewed me. It was very apparent during the interview that my answers from previous interviews had not been reviewed as the same questions were being asked. They asked what my greatest weakness was, I told them my weakness and what I’ve done to work on it, and get followed up by telling me my weakness was going to make it difficult for me in this position and what I was doing to work on my weakness. It felt very clear that either they had the question ready from the start and they weren’t prepared to alter the interview at all or they weren’t listening. This dynamic of follow up questions that felt like the interviewer did not listen to my answer continued throughout the rest of the interview. Followed by the questions, they asked if I had any more questions about the position. I didn’t as I asked them at the beginning of the interview. They ended the call early. Overall it was a pretty bizarre and disheartening experience as their values felt very apparent during the first two interviews, but completely disappeared during the next two. It felt very clear to me as a candidate that they had no interest in me for the position and it also felt like filling the position was so low on the priority list that perhaps they should not have been fielding candidates.
