I applied online. I interviewed at Progressive Insurance (Baton Rouge, LA) in Mar 2023
Interview
I applied for the salary and for the opportunity to learn a new industry - jobs like this are hard to find in Louisiana where I’ll be moving to. I also have a friend who is a former employee of 15 years who advised not to apply because of the very poor work/life balance and high turnover at Progressive. I felt I could tolerate this environment since most jobs fit this narrative. I didn’t get past the STAR method in the recorded video because I don’t work well with video recorded interviews and although I do well with behavioral questions, the star method is robotic to me. When I saw that they wanted the star method to be followed I almost withdrew my application. I should have. After my denial, I looked up the recruiters LinkedIn and he has little to no education and only a few years of HR or recruiting experience. He also works for a staffing agency. I thanked him for the opportunity to interview and he sent me back unsolicited star method feedback. I resisted the urge to be petty and ask him to remove my email address from all communication. Progressive will always have high turnover because of the way they recruit and hire.
