      District Manager Interview

      Dec 14, 2015
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Public Storage

      Interview

In a word- lengthy. 4 step process: Be prepared in steps 1-3 for constant note taking- these notes will follow you to your 4th interview. Heads up- this company's philosophy is all about knowing your weaknesses and having plans to improve them. Do not expect to move forward if you cannot do this! Google it for some advice! #1: Phone Interview- about 30 minutes, basic stuff. Make sure you have strengths and weaknesses ready to discuss. #2: In Person with 2 immediate supervisors. Three hours long- be prepared to talk about strengths, weaknesses, turning "B & C players" into better employees. Will go through all previous work experience listed on resume. One of the 2 supervisors will type constantly, filling out a check box of YES or NO on pre-determined script questions. This will follow you to the 4th and final interview step. Somewhere in this process (between #2 & #3) you will be given a "DISC" personality test link to complete. It is about a 10 minute simple survey that then generates a 44 page report that is supposed to be incredibly detailed about all your strengths and weaknesses. Embrace this report because to this company it is you to at least 90% accuracy, regardless if you agree or not! #3: Ride Along, you will spend about 4 hours or so with a current DM and will visit properties, talk to staff, etc. Again, there will be a report made about you so ensure that you ask questions, participate, etc. #4: Final interview, usually with 2 of the 3 Executive Vice Presidents. You will usually have to fly-out for this interview. This is about an hour- they will dig in to your weaknesses, DISC, and areas of concern from your Step 2 three hour interview. They will try to get you agitated, off balance, and off guard. Take your time, think before you speak, and be prepared to mirror what you said in interview #2.

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Public Storage (Roanoke, VA) in Apr 2026

      Interview

Applied online. Had to do a virtual job tryout. Then recruiter contacted me to set up a time for an initial interview. Recruiter started out strong saying this would be straight to the point and quick. That this job doesnt exist and its a "just in case" role to put you in the pipeline. Told me what the compensation was and its a take it or leave it situation. Theres no negotiation. Recruiter asked if i had experience with direct reports. I told her yes and she asked how many. Then she asked how many i currently have in my current job. I have no direct reports in my current role so she ended the interview even tho i have had upwards of 100 direct reports before. She did not care about my past district manager experience, only current. Received rejection email two days later.

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Public Storage (Denver, CO) in Apr 2026

      Interview

The interview process has five different interviews. I love the in depth process. It starts with a half hour phone interview. Proceeds to a 2 hour in person interview. Proceeds to a 3 hour ride a long. Proceeds to another rin person interview and ends with a zoom interview. I spent a total of 9 hours combined in interviews and 3 hours round trip travel time for my in person. Was only sent a form letter rejection and was ghosted when asked for feedback.
