Let me start by saying the recruiter, was amazing. But so many red flags otherwise!!
They had no idea how many steps the process would involve or when they would ask for a case study, and admitted they had changed the role around since posting.
The first interview barely asked anything of my skills. The whole time was spent talking about the company and their challenges, so I tried my best to jump in with areas I could relate that back to specific projects but there just wasn't enough opportunity. Okay great, figure this is setting it up for a case study - then that I could use to really highlight my experience.
The second interview also barely asked about my experience, more about my idea of leadership. I really prepped for this, read his blog posts, felt we had a very similar philosophy on leadership and collaboration. That went well but his role was also in charge of revenue operations and
I found it odd that no questions about which specific revenue-driven KPIs I track? How I view attribution? What projects have lead to revenue growth... Still not given any chance to really highlight my skills. BUT his blog posts showed that he cares about passion above anything else, and I have TONs of that, so I felt good.
The third interview was with the co-founder. Also listened to podcasts she had ahead of time. It was weird. There wasn't really any time spent building rapport. She just jumped in with 3 questions she wanted answered and spent most of the time picking my brain about how to improve their presence on Reddit. Thats more community management than SEO & Content but I have that skill under my belt so jumped in with ideas, like do an AMA on your subreddit, and do themed posts people can contribute to.
Ya'll... I was declined for an interview the next day because the experience I had (which I didn't even get a chance to talk about) didn't match what they were looking for.
But get this. Guess what they're doing now?
MY IDEAS I GAVE THEM IN THE INTERVIEW. ON REDDIT.. 3 DAYS LATER.
What gets me is that I was super invested in this. In addition to showing a ton of passion and enthusiasm, one of the founders I interviewed with stated she always likes to do a case study because sometimes people have off days or aren't that great at interviewing.
I replied back and asked to do a case study on my own just to show my skills because I didn't feel like I had the chance to represent them (Passion - check, aligning with the exact things the co-founder mentioned? Check)
Didn't let me... which I guess is good because it would just be more ideas to steal.
Love how my ideas are good enough but I wasn't.
