I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at REI Systems (Herndon, VA) in Feb 2010
Interview
The initial phone screening was a phone interview. I got their phone call after 5 hours of the scheduled time and no apology from the interviewer. After a week, they called me for face to face interview. It was supposed to be 2 hours, but they made it 3 hours. They kept me waiting in the lobby for 30 minutes. Three people interviewed one after another. There were lot of analytical questions like number guessing, pan balance questions and logical puzzles. The HR person did not get back and let me know the interview results. They pay less and expect more work from their employees. Most of the employees work till late nights and also in weekends.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
I have 9 coins, out of which 8 coins are identical in weight and one is lighter in weight. Is it possible to find the light weight coin with only two weighings, using pan balance?
The interview process contains at least 3 Rounds. 1. Technical Round (Tech-related questions) 2. Advanced Technical Round (In-depth interview on specific technologies) 3. Project Manager round (Like a job fit)
I interviewed with REI over the phone with a recruiter for a position. We simply went over some job listing check marks in an initial phone screen. He did not seem very knowledgeable over what technologies were even being asked, but he was able to navigate it well enough
Upon asking for my salary expectations, I said I did not know enough about the exact position to say. He proceeded to become extremely condescending and start lecturing me about how I should be negotiating my salary. I hung up because I am screening for a job interview, not battling with someone on how salary negotiation should be handled.
The recruiter then proceeded to text me an offer to teach me "how to handle the salary question" and how he was "more than willing to give it to (me)". It was really unprofessional and this would also be the first time I have ever hung up on a recruiter mid interview
