I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at REI Systems (Sterling, VA)
Interview
Pretty Straightforward. Applied through a job listing site. Recruiter contacted me and set up the initial phone screen. Phone screen was completely technical and was 1 hour long. The in-person interview was conducted by 2 software engineers and lasted for 2 hours. The interview involved answering technical questions, writing code and answering a couple of puzzles. All interviewees were very courteous and knowledgeable except the manager who was a little full of himself.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Explain Prototypal inheritance in JavaScript?, what are closures?, What JavaScript design patterns are you familiar with?
Explain CSS box model? Which HTML5 APIs have you used?
The interview process contains at least 3 Rounds. 1. Technical Round (Tech-related questions) 2. Advanced Technical Round (In-depth interview on specific technologies) 3. Project Manager round (Like a job fit)
I interviewed with REI over the phone with a recruiter for a position. We simply went over some job listing check marks in an initial phone screen. He did not seem very knowledgeable over what technologies were even being asked, but he was able to navigate it well enough
Upon asking for my salary expectations, I said I did not know enough about the exact position to say. He proceeded to become extremely condescending and start lecturing me about how I should be negotiating my salary. I hung up because I am screening for a job interview, not battling with someone on how salary negotiation should be handled.
The recruiter then proceeded to text me an offer to teach me "how to handle the salary question" and how he was "more than willing to give it to (me)". It was really unprofessional and this would also be the first time I have ever hung up on a recruiter mid interview
