Much more refined now, 30 plus years ago. Time were different on what was required.Was so long ago, was electrical and mechanical aptitude knowledge and did you show up on time. Was given a project will the direction can you fix, find the issue.

Interview
My process was quick because my level of experience. I had already gone through the sales interview and was not selected. I was then referred to service from sales and was hired on my second interview.
