If you want to save yourself from reading my entire review, all you need to know is after interviewing, I was ghosted. Read rest of review for details.
I submitted an application online, and was called within 30 minutes after submitting my application by the manager/owner. He seemed kind of flustered, and was trying to get me to come in for an interview ASAP, like the very next day. I was out of state at the time, and was available to come in for an in person interview in about 2 weeks. We settled to do a Skype interview the very next day. Overall it was a bit stressful, as the owner/manager basically left me to make all the plans for the skype interview, even going so far as to basically helping him get his skype account back up and running.
Anyway we more or less got the skype interview set up, and proceeded to have the interview over skype at our arranged time. Overall the interview was fine, and not very difficult. It was pretty informal, with basic questions about qualifications, skills, experience etc. We chatted for a while about how he started the company etc. I had very similar experience from a different job so I was certainly qualified, and was even told by the owner that I basically had all the right qualificiations
I stated in my cover letter that I wouldn't be available to start the job for about 2 weeks because I was attending to some family obligations. Even during the interview I made it very clear when exactly I could start the job. The owner/manager went on to ask me if I could basically make arrangements to travel across the country to start the job ASAP. He went on to say that one of his other managers was quitting, and he didn't have a manager for the department I was to be working in. He then went on to basically say that the job was really stressful and no one had their stuff together. He then said again that if he were to hire me, could I make arrangements to travel to the job and start within a couple days. Considering I was halfway across the country, I made it clear I would be able to start the job in regards to the availability I stated in the cover letter. The owner seemed pretty flustered by this, and went on to say that he needed someone ASAP, but would not make a decision about my candidacy based on my availability. He hastily got off skype then, saying he would contact me within a week regardless if I got the job or not. It was pretty apparent he was trying to hire someone ASAP, and I would have preferred him to tell me that up front.
I never heard back from him, and assume he basically hired someone who could start immediately. I find it pretty disrespectful to ghost someone who you've interviewed. It was a pretty weird, stressful interview. I've never had a prospective employer ask me to make arrangements to travel across the country to start a job the next day, without offering to pay for travel expenses etc. It seemed pretty apparent afterwords that his company was really chaotic. Overall I was less than impressed and happy I didn't get a job offer.
