I spent 2 hours composing a personal cover letter instead of using some generic one like most people do. I did this because I greatly aligned with the role and wanted to further display that through a cover letter (which I'm copying below) in addition to what I already highlight on my resume.
I was rejected within 2 business hours.
I reached out to the CEO via LinkedIn to express my disappointment but having managed the inboxes of previous CEOs I know they never really check their LinkedIn messages.
Having now read the reviews on here for Ramp, I feel like I've dodged a bullet.
COVER LETTER:
Hi Ramp,
My name is X and I’d like to introduce myself as an applicant for the Executive Assistant position.
With my 10+ years of experience in supporting the executive team, including CEO’s and COO’s, I’ve developed a keen ability to manage exceptionally busy calendars and email inboxes while also maintaining a polished and professional presence. My goal is to always save my executive about five hours a week so that they can focus on other areas.
Additionally, I thoroughly enjoy event planning, whether a team luncheon, board meeting or a company-wide gathering. Whether local, national, or a global event, I have planned dozens of both employee-focused and client-facing events.
My experience with start-ups and rapidly-scaling companies runs deep. When I began with my previous employer Kenshoo they were between Seed and Series A. I grew my office, while supporting the COO, from 20 to 85 employees in just two years, which included an office relocation that I sourced and built-out. Recently, I worked with a start-up that reached unicorn status. I currently support the CEO of a national luxury real estate team as a weekly freelance contractor while seeking to transition back into a NYC-based W2-position.
Echoing your “we place smart bets on people’s potential” under your “Grow without fear” value, I agree that each employee’s contribution to an organization is a marker of its success and allowing a fearless approach will only result in great expansion of employees and the company.
My attached resume highlights my Executive Assistant experience, with my LinkedIn providing a full chronology of my career.
I would thoroughly enjoy an opportunity to connect with you to further discuss the role and Ramp’s continuing growth, as well as how my experience and skills could greatly contribute to your continuing success.
I can be reached via email at X as well as via telephone at (347) X.
Thank you for reviewing my application.
Best regards,
XX
