My interview process at Raymour & Flanigan seemed to lack structure, which seems to be a common theme based on the other interview experiences posted. I was initially reached out to by someone on the Merchandising team, and then subsequently by the hiring manager to set up an initial screening interview.
I think their interview process could be improved by having a recruiter handle the screening interview instead of leaving the task to hiring managers. I say this in part because I was asked during my first interview to provide them with my previous salary which is an illegal interview question in the state of New York. If you get asked this question, please deflect.
I had a second interview with Raymour & Flanigan wherein I was asked to take two assessments during the interview. I did so, and did well on both assessments. I was told by the hiring manager that I would hear back from them regarding next steps, but never did despite the fact that I followed up.
It's important to treat candidates with respect, especially in our current climate where many job seekers are facing difficulties finding work. Raymour & Flanigan has a reputation for treating their employees well, but in my experience the respect that they give their employees was not afforded to me as a job candidate. Candidates put a lot of time and effort into interview processes and deserve to be treated with respect whether or not they are a fit for the job or organization.
The organization would benefit from having recruiters play more of a part in the interview process rather than relying on hiring managers to drive the process.
