The first interview was with the CTO and all we did is talk about what a train wreck this place is. It turns out that it was an understatement... this place is a train wreck into an orphanage with a plane crash on top of it. Avoid this place!!! Unless you want to goof off and not doing anything, then it might be a great place. TLDR; They called me in for an interview for a new Data Science position they were creating. I meet with the CTO on Monday of week 1. Really nice guy, knows next to nothing about technology. The 45 minutes was mostly him telling me how messed up the place was and that nothing ever gets done, the CEO is nuts (his words not mine), decisions take forever, the engineering team spent years getting nothing done and had major screws that caused them to lose their entire database. He summed up the interview by saying "I want you to know what you are getting into." It was great that he was so direct, but a little unusual. By the time I got home from the interview, there was a call for me to come in the next day to meet with the hiring manager. Also a really nice guy but did not have much of a concept of what a data scientist would do for him. There were no technical questions. Week 2, on Monday I get a call from the recruiter, who is also really nice, and asks me if I want to interview for a DBA position but I have to keep it quite (code for they are firing the current person). I say sure and ask about the Data Science position and I am told that they have cancelled the req for it... That is pretty messed up, they just interviewed a pile of people the week before than cancel the req. It is clear no one is stearing this ship. On pisser was that the recruiter did not even tell me that the position was cancelled, I had to ask her as she was hanging up the phone. Next day I went in for an interview with the Director of Application Development (or some title like that). Also a really nice person. One of the few people that has worked there for more than a year. While nice, it was clear that she had limited management skill and even less technical skill. There was not a single technical question. She even told me that there would be no technical questions because she does not really understand databases. She can make basic INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE calls but that is about it. She bad mouthed the current DBA and told me they are need to replace him right away. I was told that she would be making a decision about the position by the end of the week. On Friday I get a call from the recruiter telling me that I am still being considered and that they would have a final decision by the middle of week 3. Week 3 comes and goes and I do not hear anything. At the start of week 4 I call for a status update and I am told that they have offered it to someone else. The next day they call and offer me the position. When offering me the position the recruiter has no salary range or anything, just a congrats the job is yours. I assume that they had another candidate fall through. They suggest 100K which is well below market for a DBA. I counter offer at 120K which is still well below market. She tells me that she will have to get back to me. The next day they call and recind the offer because the current person has decided to stay. WTF. The DBAs manager and CTO both made several comments about how bad this person was and has not implimented the most basic things a DBA should be doing. Plus, they offered the job to me and then rescinded it the next day. This place has HORRIBLE management. I do not know if all the really bad things that I read on Glassdoor are true but they really seem like they could be. If you are unsure, at this point, google the CEO Kuba Jewgieniew... what people in the interviews told be lines up with what is on the web (note people bad mouthed the CEO during an interview).
