      I interviewed at Recharge Payments

      Interview

At first I thought the interview process was going well. They asked me questions about my work and my interests and that is what I thought they were. Unfortunately they ended up decline me due to insufficient design and debug skills when they never even gave me a techinical interview for those skills. They asked questions such as What is your favorite API? What do you expect to see in an API? If some arbitrary failure came out when doing a SQL query how would you debug? These questions when interviewing can be considered biased in my opinion. Everyones methodology on design, debugging, and wants in a piece of software will always vary and if they aren' t aligned with the same methodologies as the person interviewing you that means you cant design or debug? To be interviewing for a software engineering position and to not actually test this abilities by given a technical challenge that actually demonstrates ones ability to the tasks at hand. Its like asking someone what they like about basketball, then if it doesn't match your interviewers opinion of basketball then, to recharge ,you aren't good at basketball. We'll really because you never saw me play basketball so how do you know? Very biased interview , scoring on biased questions. If someone can tell me what the answer to "What makes a great API (according to recharge)" or what the perfect answer to "what is the best way to debug a general problem query is" I would be very interested to know what that is.
