      Financial Analyst Interview

      Oct 11, 2016
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Seattle, WA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Redfin (Seattle, WA)

      Interview

I was called by a recruiter who asked me fairly straightforward questions about previous projects and work history. However, she balked (and seemed somewhat offended) when I chose to to disclose my current salary. When asked why, I informed them that I believed I was underpaid since I had been unemployed for a stretch before I found my current job. She mentioned that, ultimately, my current salary would be required to be divulged as they make their salary offers based on what you currently make. It was a normal enough interview, but if you believe you are underpaid at your current job they might not be where you want to apply.

      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Redfin (Seattle, WA) in May 2022

      Interview

Interview was a pretty standard process. Phone screen with recruiter, then 30 min chat with hiring manager, then 3 hr panel with five to six people. I went all the way to the final rounds but did not receive an offer because they had a hiring freeze. So the companys not doing so hot right now so I would potentially avoid them at the moment. They also have you do an excel test. But this is not your normal (oh do your best in 1 hour) excel test. It's a legitimately difficult test. You essentially have to forecast the number of shares that will vest over a certain time period. And the data sets aren't necessarily clean either. You have to scrub them first which is super annoying. The test took me an entire Saturday so just be forewarned that their test is not like any other simple excel test from other companies that will pay just the same (if not better lol).

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 7 weeks. I interviewed at Redfin (Seattle, WA) in Feb 2021

      Interview

The difficult interviewing process started from a phone call with the recruiter, a 30-minute phone call with the hiring manager, and take home excel exam that took me around 10 hours to finish. After passing the exam, I had a 3-hour back to back virtual interviews with 5 different directors.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Each director has topics on behavior questions to ask. Some of the topics were experiences handling business partners, executive communication, how to answer ambiguity, and technical aptitude.
