I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Redfin (Seattle, WA) in May 2017
Interview
Recruiter call, then phone screen, then onsite.
It seems like they're looking for people who could come up with a solution that they're thinking, and not a creative/unique solution. I thought the on site showed a lot of my passion and how I approached solving a problem, but since it wasn't precisely how they approached it they didn't give me an offer. Basically you get the job by either being lucky and thinking what they're thinking, or you've seen their exact solution before.
I did thorough research on the company and product, showed enthusiasm and that I love and believe in what they're doing, gave examples of past experiences that align with their core values. For the technical portion, I think it went semi-bad on 2 out of 4 sessions. One where the hiring manager didn't give me a chance to refactor or handle the code as I was thinking. He basically directed me to write what he wanted to see. And the other one was a design problem which was very vague and hard to know what he was looking for. Which I understand is the point to see how I handle uncertainty and unknown. But when I was trying to solve one problem he started asking about another problem and made it more confusing.
Very practical interview where they asked the ingesting MLS data points and how do we map it on out system. The interviewer was very kind and if youdont know about specific he will take time to explain.
Got to the first interview and got cut after. Just asked basic behavioral questions. Wasn't too difficult, but there were probably applicants that gave better answers. Interviewer was nice and kind.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Tell me about a time where you disagreed with a teammate, and how did you resolve it?
There was a phone screening, then zoom interviews. I was asked behavioral questions, and I did well on it. There were technical rounds, and I passed, standard technical questions. Also spoke to the hiring manager for the skills and cultural fit.
