I wouldn't recommend applying to this company. Spoke very briefly with a recruiter at the campus career fair. They were taking resumes but not wanting to spend too much time with potential candidates. I received an email a week or so later inviting me to an interview over some program that allowed you to video chat and type code into a text editor that both parties could edit. The interview wasn't bad, but it wasn't very exciting. The interviewer didn't know anything about me ahead of time, hadn't seen my resume, etc. While in the interview, someone also walked into the interviewer's office and interrupted us. Not the most professional interview, but wasn't entirely bad. Just really impersonal. I was asked to talk about a project of mine that I was most proud of, and how I would have liked to improve it. I was also asked for what types of improvements I would make to their website (which is admittedly difficult, since it's a pretty solid website,) as well as asked for vague technical details of how I would accomplish it. Technical question was pretty simple, but they were kind of sticklers about having 100% correct syntax in the code. The interviewer tried to help out where they could without giving the answer. The thing that threw me off the most was that when I was asked for the run time of the algorithm, I provided big O notation, and they said "No, but what if I gave you a data set of [some specific size], what would the run time be?" The recruiter contacted me via phone a few weeks later and invited me onsite to Seattle for an interview, saying that there was one other candidate they were interviewing with for this last position. After I agreed to come out, she said she would email me the specifics after we got off the phone. The specifics never came, and as I was in the process of trying to contact her the next day regarding the missing email, I received a very short email stating that Redfin would instead simply be hiring the other candidate and that the position was no longer available, and I would not be flying out to interview in Seattle. I was very upset and disappointed by the lack of professionalism that played out at the end of this process. I guess it was misunderstanding and a lapse in communication, as I understood that both myself and another candidate were being considered equally and both going through the interview process. But regardless, I had an interview invite that was then pulled out from under me.
