The entire recruiting process was ridiculous, and the HR rep was ill informed about current internal policies and procedures. I had to take personality assessment (at worst, a useless tool for assessing candidate qualifications; at worst, a great way to waste applicants' time) online with very little explanation about how it would be used. After a very unprofessional interview with the hiring manager via video where they looked like they had just rolled out of bed, I was asked to come in to present to the team. I was given very vague directions on what was expected and a ridiculous time frame.
The hiring manager was late, and wasted a bunch of time showing me around the office when I would have preferred to get set up. No one remembered to get me wifi access, so my time to meet with the team got cut shorter and shorter.
I managed to do well on the in-person interview, and they offered me a position. When I countered with a slightly higher salary more aligned with industry standards for the seniority of the title, the HR rep kept telling me how amazing their benefits are and that I should be grateful.
After they came up by 5.5%, I accepted the job, but I really shouldn't have. It was toxic AF with lots of incompetent leaders, more politics and red tape than I've seen in more complicated organizations, and the HR team is predominantly focused on patting themselves on the back for how awesome they think they are. And if you want to know where the racism and ableism comes from in the organization, you can look at the top of the HR ladder.
I eventually found another job after a few months, but it was hell while I was there.
