I had a call with a recruiter where I explained my experience and clearly indicated that I had never used Elixir before. I was told that on the job training will be provided to use Elixir and that Elixir is not required in the application process. The job posting also indicated the same.
The next round, I met with a manager to answer behavioral questions about my experience.
After passing this round, I moved on to the take home exercise which I was surprised to learn must be completed in Elixir and required learning the Elixir language as well as the Phoenix framework. I spent 2 weeks learning Elixir and completing the take home exercise, addressing all requirements and ensuring the code was clean and performance was great with best practices followed and documented. I was rejected from this round and the feedback was nonsensical, as it made points that were specifically addressed in my README design notes. I completed all the explicit requirements but they expected me to do some other steps as well that would require a complete assumption on my part as to what's expected. Typically minor improvements or additional requirements would be addressed as part of the next interview to discuss the take home assignment, but I was rejected at this point.
The experience left me feeling that my time was disrespected, and that the engineering team seems rather inexperienced.
Thanks for your review. We're sorry to hear that our rejection feedback and process weren't as helpful as they could have been. We strive to provide valuable feedback and excellent experience to all candidates, and we'll use your input to improve our process. We appreciate your honesty and wish you the best in your future endeavors.
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Remote in Jul 2023
Interview
The process was smooth and quite fast. An interview with HR, an interview with an Engineering Manager, a technical code challenge to solve at home, an interview with the engineering team to talk about that, and later an offer.

We warmly welcome you to the team!
Multiple steps, interviews with different roles in the company: HR (screening interview), HR and CEO (general fit), and a more in depth interview with potential team members. The last interview was more about the take-home coding exercise than I expected, but looking back it makes sense that that interview was a coding focused interview.
