      Marketing Technology Manager Interview

      Dec 16, 2022
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Remote
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Ricoh (Remote) in Nov 2022

      Interview

Extremely odd. The first negative sign--a recruiter reached out to me on LinkedIn and indicated that I might be a fit for the position but that she wanted to see my resume (?). She sent me a link to a very poorly-written, vague job description that, frankly, didn't really seem to match my background that well from the little bit of information I could understand. But I was still pushed through to interview very quickly, so I decided to see if I could find out more about the opportunity via interview since the description was so bad. Second negative sign--the recruiter not calling at the scheduled time and not reaching out to let me know she couldn't make the appointment. I sent an email to Ricoh, and she didn't respond until the next day. I have had this experience before with Nestle, and I know that when interviewers don't show up and don't reach out that means they've probably already interviewed most of the candidates and have chosen who they want to go to the next round already. Despite this, I wasted time going ahead with rescheduling, and she actually called promptly that time. Third--if I didn't know Ricoh is a legitimate company, I would have immediately felt like I was being scammed. Very thick accent, which doesn't mean anything in and of itself--don't get me wrong. But she started out saying the interview would be recorded. It reminded me of those weird telemarketer calls or when you call DirecTV or the internet/cable company. Who records the job interview? And then the way she asked her questions was similar to a telemarketer survey. There was really no discussion of the position from her end, so I still don't know much about it, except that they seem to be looking for experience with things I've never heard of in my 5+ years in marketing. And when I tried to ask questions at the end, it was obvious that she didn't know anything other than what was in the description. It took less than 24 hours to get a rejection email because, as I said, they obviously had already chosen the candidates they wanted to move on. I don't see how, though, with this kind of interviewer as the front-line person and what they seem to be looking for.
