      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at RiskSpan

      Interview

What the company does is actually pretty cool so I hope it's just this one bad experience. I applied for an open marketing position and received an interview request within the same day. The recruiter then spoke to me on the phone a few days later and essentially laughed at me when I mentioned my salary requirement. This was both interesting and insulting for a number of reasons. 1. On their website they pride themselves on compensating employees handsomely. Why would you make that claim if you're not prepared to back that up? 2. I didn't pick a salary out of thin air. I asked for a reasonable salary based on the job requirements, my experience, education and compared the role to similar ones on Glassdoor in the same area. By the way, I'm getting paid significantly more than I asked for in my RiskSpan interview at a different company now so clearly my current company didn’t think my request was unreasonable. 3. Though the job they posted online listed a mix of entry-level and mid-manager level responsibilities they told me they were looking for someone more senior. So you mean to tell me that you intend to hire someone more senior but give them an entry-level job title and then compensate them below an entry level salary to do this job? That's a little unrealistic… They emailed me again a few weeks later after they couldn't find anyone "more senior" to fill the position (shocking) and then I spoke with the manager I would be reporting to. He was equally baffling.
