Hiring process seemed straightforward. I got a call from the recruiter, we talked about my experience, I sent over my portfolio. I then talked to members of the team which went well, then I had the second to last interview with the director. Overall he seemed very taken aback by UX and research which is standard in product design and to which I mentioned in the initial call and my portfolio. He interjected on what he wanted to see before I had the chance to explain my presentation and what I was covering. He told the recruiter I seemed nervous, which I wasn't, just confused as to why a portfolio he should have already seen he didn't seem to understand. They passed on me because I wanted to describe the process and the most robust research leading to a design and not just show UI. Product design is more than just UI, so if you're seasoned in UX proceed with caution. The product designers don't do research to support their work and instead rely on researchers. They did want me to be referred to the UX strategist role, but as a product designer I don't design part of the product. I use research to support UI design and wasn't willing to work for a company that didn't operate like that and which the product designers didn't understand the benefit of doing their own research.
