The interview process with Rocket Mortgage for the Data Analyst role was comprehensive, covering behavioral, technical, and role-specific topics across multiple rounds. Loved the interviewers and the company.
In the first round, I introduced myself, shared my background, and explained my motivations for the role. The discussion included past projects, my technical skills in SQL, Python, and Tableau, and salary expectations. The conversation was brief but positive, with next steps outlined, including a more technical-focused follow-up.
In subsequent rounds, I explored company-specific practices, like their "isms," and demonstrated my ability to handle heavy workloads, prioritize tasks, and communicate effectively with internal teams. I discussed challenges faced in my career, unexpected learnings, and my approach to balancing marketing metrics, such as churn rate versus subscription metrics. Presentations of my work were well-received, particularly my deck on marketing campaigns and analytical insights.
The technical rounds (had a take home too) included SQL questions on topics such as removing duplicates, handling table joins with null values, and using CASE WHEN statements. I also discussed advanced concepts like SMOTE versus oversampling and decision-making in campaign management. Questions on dashboard creation versus basic analysis allowed me to highlight my experience in making data accessible and actionable for non-technical stakeholders.
Behavioral questions focused on teamwork, conflict resolution, and delivering technical insights to non-technical audiences. I emphasized creativity in presenting data, storytelling with insights, and my approach to onboarding and improving team processes. I also expressed my preference for diverse data projects and clear communication in stressful scenarios.
Overall, the interviews were engaging and allowed me to showcase my technical proficiency, communication skills, and analytical mindset.
