      Compliance Specialist Interview

      Mar 5, 2016
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Detroit, MI
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Rocket (Detroit, MI)

      Interview

I was recommended to QL by another employee. I received a call from a recruiter to set up a time for a telephone interview. On the phone interview the conversation seemed very forced as the recruiter was young and inexperienced. He seemed to be reading off a script. I was not asked about my precious work experience at all, which includes over five years of experience as a top performer a mortgage company. I was not even sure for which position he was interviewing me. I tried to ask about the position, offered to discuss my precious employment, but was cut off by the recruiter as if work experience and qualifications did not matter at all! I hung up feeling bewildered. I then went online and decided to look at the open jobs to actually apply for the jobs I was interested in. I found about six different positions that I actually had experience doing at the other mortgage company. I applied to all of them. They ranged from entry level bilingual (I speak Spanish fluently) customer service rep (they call it Client Ambassador I believe) who answers the simplest questions about escrow, insurance and the loan to paralegal, for which I have 9 years of experience both in the mortgage industry and in law office settings. I then received a call from the recruiter who said that the job he interviewed me for was not a fit. I then contacted him to advise that I applied for other positions within the company for which I have experience. He said that at the time he interviewed me, he had considered me for all open positions and I was not a fit for any of them. I guess my own personal opinion is that it is good to have a mix of entry level employees and experienced employees to diversify the team and ensure that the company has a knowledgeable team with members that have experience and the wisdom regarding the industry to help the entry level workers. I am not sure if it is that QL doesn't want people with previous experience because they believe that they won't be able to train them to fit the QL mold, or if they just want to hire people straight out of college without experience so that they can pay them less. I am not sure which is the case.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Are you okay with working 50-60 hours? (I answered yes) Why did you leave your last job? (I answered that it is because I was at the highest position I could achieve without going to law school. I felt like I had more to offer and wanted to get back into the multi-faceted mortgage industry where I could work hard and possibly move up within the company.) How do you know _____, who referred you? (I answered that he is my husband)

Received a phone call/email soon after submitting a resume. Scheduled a call time for screening interview. Nothing too substantive regarding your background, more screening questions to gauge your attitudes towards work. Interviewer was pleasant and personable.
