Interviewing is a delicate dance. In an ideal situation, the candidate is interviewing the potential employer as much as the employer is the candidate. This was very much the case in my interview with Roofstock. In my experience (both hiring and interviewing) time gets wasted on each party's insecurities (employer: will I train you only for you to leave, are you full of hot air? Interviewee: do you churn and burn employees with no regard for burnout, is there a toxic culture, do you actually know what you need me for?) Roofstock, on the other hand, was GREAT. They quickly made clear that they were a company with strong values and good culture. They seemed to have faith in their ability to hire well and retain talent on their own merits (no repetitive questions about work ethic or "commitment"). Instead, they spent time on real meat and potatoes topics. Not only did they make clear their needs, but they actively investigated what my personal motivators and goals, and work preferences are. My favorite question was about how to appropriately respond if you notice a mistake on a deliverable that's already gone out to a client. Overall I'd give each of the interviews a 5 out of 5. I finished the interviews trusting that I knew the company, the needs of the position, the culture of my future team, and that the HR apparatus would be blazingly fast and hyper-efficient. Something I can now verify is as true of their internal HR as it is of their hiring managers. Alex my hiring manager was AMAZING. He was on top of everything and highly communicative throughout the entire process. If it sounds like I am gushing. I am.

Timeline: - First interview with Alex (the recruiter!) a week after submitted application - Back-to-back interviews with asset management team less than a week later - Interview with COO a week later - Interview with VP same week - Case Study Excel Test - Presentation of Case Study to asset management team two weeks later - Offer received one week later Total time: approx 7 weeks Overall, great process! Very quick and Alex was super responsive with answering my emails and phone calls.
